Sunday Morning Solar Eclipse

Peyre Pringle captured these photos of a rare solar eclipse from his home on Isle of Palms’ Ocean Boulevard. The event occurred on the morning of Sunday, November 3 and was visible throughout most of the Western Hemisphere. According to National Geographic magazine, although the Earth crosses between the moon and the sun every month, a total solar eclipse occurs only when the three celestial bodies are perfectly aligned so that the moon casts its dark central shadow (called the umbra) onto a very narrow strip along the surface of the Earth.
