The 5k Run for Adela took place Saturday, April 25 beginning on the beach at Station 16 on Sullivan’s Island. The race, in its sixth year, is put on by the Adela Holmes Cook Foundation in memory of Adela, a local girl from Mount Pleasant who died from injuries sustained in a golf car accident on April 10, 2009 during a trip in the Bahamas. The foundation has donated over $30,000 to Camp Happy Days and other needs in the Lowcountry since its inception in 2010. Frank Morris won the men’s 5K and Mary Legare Whaley was the womens’ champion. A one mile fun run for those under 12 also took place.
