It’s the season of giving and a time to remember those in our community who are less fortunate. Last week, the associates of East Cooper Medical Center did just that by donating 87 gifts to East Cooper Meals on Wheels. An angel tree was set up in the hospital’s main lobby in November and gifts have been collected over the last several weeks.
“The contribution from East Cooper Medical Center is simply fantastic. We’re thrilled to be standing in a room full of presents for our recipients,” Adrian Wieland, Program and Volunteer Manager for East Cooper Meals on Wheels, said.
East Cooper Meals on Wheels is a community based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. They deliver daily nutrition free of charge to residents of Mount Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island, Isle of Palms, Wando, Cainhoy and Daniel Island who are homebound or unable to provide their own meals. They will provide more than 126,000 meals this year.
East Cooper Medical Center has been working with East Cooper Meals on Wheels since 2003. The donations made today will be distributed next week before the holidays.
“I’m extremely proud of our associates today,” Jason Alexander, CEO of East Cooper Medical Center, said. “They are committed to this community and helping those in need whether it’s in this hospital or through programs such as this one with East Cooper Meals on Wheels.”
