Staff Report for The Island Eye News
After a successful 18 years in business, PrimeTime Fitness, Inc. made the announcement that the company will begin a gradual merge with Gold’s Gym of Mount Pleasant in July. Gold’s has acquired the space at 760 Coleman Blvd., formerly occupied by Southern Seasons, and plans to open late fall/winter of 2018.
The merge will allow PrimeTime Fitness clients and members to enjoy more upscale facilities, a wider variety of group classes, and new equipment… overall, much more than PrimeTime could offer alone. In addition, Gold’s Gym of Mount Pleasant will be introducing a new line of Group Workouts – “Studio” – which will give members the opportunity to experience the same small-group experience, caliber and quality of the GroupX training which has proven to be highly popular at PrimeTime Fitness.
PrimeTime Fitness was established on July 1, 2000. Owner Meredith Nelson opened the doors of a small two-room personal training studio on Sullivan’s Island to fill the need for island residents. Demand for her training services grew into a need for more, and the building was expanded twice within five years to accommodate indoor cycling, small group training, boot camps, yoga, and gym memberships. In 2015, PrimeTime relocated to their current location in the former Channel 4 building in Mount Pleasant. That property is to be demolished in early 2019, as local developer Middle Street Partners has plans to build an apartment community with up to 224 units.
The same team that has kept Gold’s Gym going on James Island for fourteen years is excited to be coming East of the Cooper. Gold’s Gym of Mount Pleasant will be taking up the 34,000 square feet in the former Southern Seasons location. Our new Gold’s will offer a similar menu of services as those on James Island . . . Group X classes will include some of the Les Mills programming, such as Body Pump, Body Flow and Body Attack, as well as indoor cycling. We are excited to introduce the STUDIO Gold program, which consists of small group conditioning and high-intensity training in a boutique studio setting, with smaller class sizes and specialized instruction.
PrimeTime’s Nelson will take the position of Director of Training/Head Trainer at Gold’s. Along with a Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Nelson holds certifications as a Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, Medical Exercise Specialist, and Titleist Performance Institute Golf Fitness Professional (Level 3). “We are so excited to be coming together as a team with Gold’s Gym of Mt. Pleasant – it will allow us to serve our members with so much more than we have the ability to do alone. In addition, Gold’s will be acquiring a group of loyal members that are genuinely at the gym to become healthier and fitter, in the safest, most effective – and fun! – way possible. It’s a win-win for everyone involved!” – Meredith Nelson, owner, PrimeTime Fitness, Inc.
