Home Team BBQ presents the second annual block party benefitting Hogs for the Cause, Rock the Block. The freeto-attend, family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 23. Gather on Williman St. in Charleston to revel in food, drink, music & more in support of the fight against pediatric cancer.
Festival-goers can expect a variety of eats from acclaimed pitmasters Jonathan and Justin Fox of Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q (Atlanta, Ga.), chef Eddie Hernandez of Taqueria del Sol (Atlanta, Ga.), pitmaster Sam Jones of Sam Jones BBQ (Ayden, North Carolina), as well as local talents Shuai & Corrie Wang of Short Grain, chef Bob Cook of Edmund’s Oast, and offerings from the ladies of Goat.Sheep.Cow.

Other drinks available for purchase will be provided by beverage partners Larceny Bourbon, Deep Eddy Vodka, Altos Tequila, Virgil Kaine, and Underwood.
Live entertainment will be provided throughout the day, with performances by singersongwriter Elise Testone (with The Led Zeppelin Tribute), Drivin N Cryin’s Kevn Kinney and headliner Great Peacock all taking the stage, presented by Larceny Bourbon.
Attendees may also purchase raffle tickets for the chance to win a variety of prizes, from a YETI cooler, a Larceny electric guitar, to a medium Big Green Egg, all presented by celebrity emcee Marcus Amaker.
Lastly, a kids’ zone inflatable bounce house will be installed onsite as families are encouraged to attend. Admittance to Rock the Block is free to the public, but donations will be appreciated at the entrance.
Proceeds from Rock the Block 2019 benefit Hogs for the Cause, a non-profit organization that helps alleviate the emotional and financial strain experienced by children and their families during the fight against pediatric cancer. With the community’s support, the first annual Rock the Block event raised over $25,000 of the $40,000 that Home Team proudly donated in 2018 alone, encouraging higher goals for this year’s event as well as plans for larger grants to be allocated to Charleston-based families. The event serves as the premier fundraiser for Home Team’s support of Hogs for the Cause, in addition to multiple pop-up events at the restaurant, limited-time special menu items, and the restaurant’s “Round Up” campaign.
“Home Team BBQ has been involved with Hogs for the Cause for four years now,” says owner and chef/pitmaster Aaron Siegel. “We teamed up with our pals Fox Bros. and Taqueria del Sol out of Atlanta in 2014 for the New Orleans festival and have been doing our best to contribute on behalf of our team for this amazing cause ever since.”
For those looking for an exclusive experience, a limited number of VIP tickets are available for purchase for $95 per person. A VIP pass grants access to the event’s courtyard, where ticket holders can enjoy all-you-can-eat food offerings from F.I.G.’s Jason Stanhope, Minero’s Wesley Grubbs, and Home Team BBQ, in addition to drinks from Edmund’s Oast mixologist Jayce McConnell. Kids VIP tickets are also available for $25 per person, allowing each his or her choice of food from the VIP courtyard or selections off of Home Team’s regular kid’s menu.
