Staff Report for The Island Eye News
Just in time for the holidays, IOP has installed signs clarifying the new parking rules that were approved by City Council in June through Ordinance 2018.5 and Ordinance 2018.10 of the Managed Beach Parking Plan.
Beach parking, which will be free to the public, with no permit required, is limited to cross streets, 3rd Ave. to 9th Ave., between Ocean Blvd and Carolina Blvd. and along Palm Blvd between 21st Ave. and 40th Ave., (parallel parking only) and on Palm Blvd. between 42nd Ave. and 57th Ave. Be sure that your vehicle is at least 4 feet away from the pavement when parking along Palm Blvd.
Residential parking areas are more plentiful and designated by new signage, however, you must have a parking decal, issued from the City of IOP to avoid a ticket. Full-time resident owners, parttime resident owners and those who rent for more than 3 months are entitled to an annual decal. Applications are online (IOP.net) or obtainable at the IOP Public Safety Building. Golf carts must be registered as well.
Sorry Santa, but trailer parking (more than 20’ in length) is prohibited along public rights-of-way, unless you are actively loading or unloading. The exception is on 41st Ave. between Waterway Blvd. and the terminus of 41st Ave., and then it is only applicable to those with a residential parking permit.
